JAMES S. HSUE provides strategic counseling to clients as part of an overall business strategy, and represents them before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and foreign patent offices (through foreign associate patent counsel) in patent prosecution, opposition and reexamination proceedings. He renders opinions on patent validity and infringement in relation to patent litigation, licensing, mergers and acquisitions and corporate financing including initial public offerings. Mr. Hsue procures patents in the technical areas of semiconductors, optical systems for semiconductor processing equipment, wireless and optical communications, nanotechnology, flash memory, software, business methods and audio and video technologies. He also works with companies in Silicon Valley having Asian connections, and with the patent community in the greater China area.

Mr. Hsue is a founder and partner in the firm. He began his legal career as a staff attorney for Exxon Production Research Company in Houston, Texas in 1978, moved back to San Francisco in 1983 to join Majestic, Parsons, Siebert and Hsue P.C. and then worked with Mr. Parsons, Ms. de Runtz and other members of our professional staff at Skjerven Morrill LLP for over two years, immediately prior to founding this firm.

Mr. Hsue is a member of the State Bar of California and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is also fluent in several Chinese dialects, including Mandarin and Cantonese.
